The Barrier Vest combines a modern softshell with the tried and true performance of a wool blend fleece. This vest is great in all weather conditions as it is waterproof, breathable, and windproof. In 1903, George “Stormy” Kromer — a semi-pro baseball player and railroad engineer — asked his wife, Ida, for a solution to the freezing prairie wind stealing his cap as he worked on his locomotive. Her solution was to hand-stitch the now-famous earband on one of Stormy’s old baseball caps. The hat stayed on. His head stayed warm. And a legend was born.Today everything, from our materials to our method, is as authentic as that first cap. Our family-run factory in the rugged and remote Upper Peninsula of Michigan has been crafting quality fabric products for three generations now. We’re proud to continue George and Ida’s legacy of innovation and style. BARRIER VEST: This vest combines a modern softshell with the tried and true performance of a wool blend fleece. This waterproof, breathable, and windproof vest includes a coil zip front, left chest zip pocket, and welt side pockets.

COMPOSITION: Washable wool-blend, 40% polyester, 35% acrylic, 25% wool in Fog color,m The Ottawa is 50% wool, 25% polyester, 25% nylon. The softshell on both is 100% polyester. Available in 5 sizes and 2 colors: Ottawa and Fog.

This is an amazing vest that blends the warmth of wool without the itch and the flex of polyester and spandex blend. It is waterproof in light rain as claimed and blocks out wind better than any other vest I have ever owned. I use it for casual dress at the office and playing in the woods (hiking, hunting, fishing). It has the perfect mix of vintage look and new fashion that is also extremely comfortable. I can wear in a good range of temperatures as high as 60F and with a flannel or sweatshirt in temperatures as low as 20F and not feel too cold. The pockets are placed in great spots although I wish there was at least one inside pocket. The only downside for me (other than lacking an inside pocket) is that I wish I bought an XL. I am 6ft tall 200 pounds and I usually wear a large but could have opted for XL to cover below my waistline and to fit more layers under when necessary if it was available (they no long had the color I wanted in XL). Stormy Kromer is an amazing company with amazing products; however, they have discontinued this barrier vest and I hope they bring it back soon (with more pockets). It is worth the money.
